TISI is the abbreviation for the Thai Industrial Standards Institute. As a department under the Ministry of Industry of Thailand, TISI is responsible for formulating standards that meet both domestic and international requirements, as well as monitoring products and conformity assessment procedures to ensure compliance with established standards and accreditations. Authorized by the Industrial Product Standards Act, TISI oversees certification activities in Thailand. It serves not only as the government authority for mandatory certification but also as the body responsible for standard formulation and management, certification, laboratory accreditation, and personnel training and registration. It is important to note that there are no non-governmental mandatory certification bodies in Thailand.
Thailand requires mandatory certification for products falling under 60 major categories across 8 sectors. These include electrical equipment and accessories, medical devices, construction materials, consumer goods, vehicles, PVC pipes, LPG gas containers, and agricultural products. Certification for all other product categories is voluntary.
